Why we build this way
Our goal is to build the tools we keep wishing existed.
Every one of them starts the same way: something we wanted, went looking for, and couldn’t find in a form we were willing to live with.
What we keep wanting is a tool we can open, use for a minute and put down — one that asks nothing of us to get started and keeps what we put into it to itself. Wanting that over and over turned into four rules, and we hold everything we make to them.
Your time
Software should ask for as little of your day as it can. We build things you open, use and close — and nothing we make will ever nag you to come back to it.
Your money
Anything we can give away, we give away. You pay for the parts that genuinely cost us money each time you use them, and only when you use them — never for the months you have had something installed.
Your judgement
We would rather explain than assert. Where one of our apps shows you a figure, it names where that figure came from, so you can decide what to make of it instead of taking our word for it.
Your anonymity
It is in our name, so we had better mean it. Our apps have no accounts, keep no record of who you are, and carry no analytics or advertising code — we would rather not know who you are, because data nobody holds is data nobody can lose.
What we charge for
You only pay for what you use, not for how long you’ve had it.
A few things genuinely cost us money every time somebody uses them, and those run on credits. Everything else in everything we make is free, and stays free.

Download it and the whole app is there, unlocked. Every feature is in from the start, with nothing held back to sell you later.

Try the paid parts on us
Anything that runs on credits comes with a handful of free uses, so you can find out whether it is worth it to you before you spend anything. Whatever something costs is shown before you tap it.

Top up only if it’s worth it
Credits sit there until you use them. Put the app down for three months and it costs you nothing at all, because there is nothing recurring to forget about.

What you can hold us to
We’ll tell you what we don’t know.
Software is very good at sounding certain. A figure to one decimal place, a tidy summary, a confident little label — and almost nobody asks how it got there.
We would rather say how it got there. When one of our apps has read something, it will say it read it. When it has worked something out, it will say that instead — and where the answer depends on somebody else’s published opinion, it will name whose. When we simply do not know, that is what you will get told, even on the occasions where a more confident answer would have sold better.
